new for 2014: entries accepted for best director, producer and commissioner awards

in previous years at the ukmvas, the individual awards for best director, best new director, best producer, and best commissioner have been voted for based on a longlist of suggestions compiled by the uk music video awards team.
this year, for the first time, these categories are open for entries, throwing the doors open to production companies, reps, labels and the individuals themselves to put themselves forward for the awards.
in order to qualify, directors and producers must submit links to 3 videos for which they were responsible and which were completed and delivered between 1 august 2013 and 31 july 2014. commissioners must submit links to 5 videos.
a new director is defined as one who had not made a commissioned music video prior to 1 january 2013. both this and the best director category are open to directing teams as well as individuals.

new criteria for budget video categories

this year the criteria for the best budget videos – awarded in 5 genres: pop, dance, urban, rock/indie and alternative – state that any video made for under £5000 (or the equivalent in another currency) is eligible to enter. this is an increase from a budget level of £2000 in the past.
budget video categories are open to entries from all around the world, and aim to recognise the best of new film-making talent working in music videos.
the budget categories offer a chance for newer filmmakers in the industry to showcase their talents. they also offer independent artists and labels a chance to participate in the awards, and demonstrate the extent of their creativity regardless of cost pressures.

last year’s winners in the budget video categories included zaiba jabbar’s video for tiny dancer’s ‘who am i’, ola martin fjeld’s video for pixel’s ‘call me’, stevie russell’s video for kodaline’s ‘all i want’, and lamar + nik’s video for lushlife’s ‘magnolia’.
